My husband was born on the farm his father started making maple syrup in 1937 with buckets and horses. When his father passed away, we built a new sugarhouse, but now we use tubing the sap goes all in big tank. And It’s brought to the sugarhouse. For us to boil. it takes 40 gallons of sap to make a gallon of syrup.
Some years it takes more it depends on your sugar, content we seen some weeks boiling five days in the road then if the weather is too cold, will be 3 to 4 days without sap everything depends on the weather and the wind
